disorders - Posttraumatic stress disorder
Description
This disorder can evolve after going through a very stressful event.
People keep thinking about it. The avoid the place where the event took
place. Also, their emotions are disturbed. They are scared quickly and
they can react very emotional to relatively small things. This disorder
can occur shortly after the stressful event. It is then called an acute
posttraumatic stress disorder. It is also possible to occur a few months
after the stressful event. The disorder is often abbreviated to PTSD.
Normal
Going through a stressful life event can cause an intense emotional
reaction. After experiencing a car crash, most people will think back
of the vent a lot. But they usually will continue living their lives
after a few days or weeks.
Abnormal
Some people are not able to continue to live their lives. Whether or
not people are able to do this depends on the kind of event and the
type of person. PTSD is often diagnosed in people who fought in a war.
The multiple stressful events that may happen in a war are often so
devastating that they cause a trauma.
