Description
This type of mood disorder is characterized by mood swings. People with
this disorder go through episodes of depression, with the same facets
as the major depressive disorder. Additionally, they go through manic
episodes, characterized by a very joyful mood and a lot of energy.
Normal
Every has mood swings to some extent. Some days are better than other.
Some day we feel like working, some days we don't.
Abnormal
The difference between moods is extreme in people with this disorder.
The periods of depression usually occur more frequently. The manic period
begins very sudden. People that live with this person are surprised
by the sudden change. In the manic period, positive thinking can become
so unrealistic, that big risks are taken. For example, someone might
invest al his money in stocks.
