Eating disorders
- Bulimia nervosa
Description
The behavior of people with bulimia nervosa is exactly opposite to that
of anorexia nervosa. They don't stop eating, they go through episodes
wherein they eat an large amount of food. They totally lose control
over their eating behavior. To maintain their weight, they make sure
they get rid of the food they just ate, for example by vomiting or using
pills. They have in common with people with anorexia that they can't
make a realistic judgment about their body size.
Normal
Eating a lot can be a (little effective) way of dealing with your problems.
People who are dumped by their partner can start eating a lot of chocolate
out of frustration. It can also occasionally happen that you throw up
after eating something, but this usually is due to quality of the food.
Abnormal
People with bulimia nervosa eat an enormous amount of food a few times
a week and for a longer period of time. They themselves are the cause
of their vomiting.
