- Borderline personality disorder
In the description
below a stereotype is used to give you an idea of the disorder. However,
not all people who have this disorder display all these
characteristics, and not all people have these characteristics to the
same degree.
Description
People with this disorder are very insecure and impulsive. They can't
stand being alone and they need a lot of attention. Also, their mood
can change dramatically from one moment to the next. They can be extremely
happy and joyful, but very dramatic a few minutes later. They either
like someone very, very much or they really hate a person. There seems
to be no option in between these two extremes. They sometimes wound
themselves, mostly by cutting themselves with a knife. This can sometimes
lead to suicide. These people sometimes tell other people that they
were sexually abused in their youth. Additionally, promiscuous sexual
behavior can be part of their lifestyle.
Normal
Some people are more impulsive than others. They like to be in the spotlight,
to have attention. Other people can sometimes react very emotionally,
even dramatically. This doesn't point to a borderline personality disorder.
Abnormal
People with this disorder crave for attention from other people. They
often react so impulsive, that they wind up in a lot of trouble. This
makes it hard for them to maintain a stable relationship. An example
of a girl named Reza, who has borderline can be seen in the dutch movie
"Ik ook van jou", based on the book of Ronald Giphart.
